Bearing Cone

The inner race of a tapered roller bearing; usually an integral assembly with the roller and cage.

Bearing Crush

The additional height, manufactured into each bearing half, to ensure complete contact of the bearing back with the housing bore when the engine is assembled.

Bearing Cup

The outer race of a tapered roller bearing; usually pressed into the wheel hub.

Bearing Groove

A channel cut into the surface of a bearing to ensure oil distribution.

The inside diameter of a bearing,

Bearing OD

The outside diameter of a bearing.

Bearing Oil Clearance

A space that is provided between a shaft and a bearing so oil can flow through it.

Bearing Pre-lubricator

A pressurized oil tank attached to the engine-lubrication provisions to maintain oil pressure when the engine is not running.

Bearing Shell

One half of a single rod or main bearing set.

Bearing Spacer

A device that is used to hold a bearing in the housing bore.

Bearing Spin

A bearing that has rotated in its housing or block, generally due to failure as a result of lack of lubrication.

Bearing Spread

The small extra distance across the parting faces of a bearing half in excess of the actual diameter of the bearing bore.

Bearing Upper

The bearing shell that is positioned opposite the bearing cap.

Beater

A car used for everyday transportation.

Bed Bar

A metal tube for a pickup truck that installs in the front of the bed, just behind the cab. Many bed bars are offered in polished stainless steel, black powdercoated steel or chrome. Most bed bars are for style and to be used as a mounting point for auxiliary lighting, but some also provide rollover protection.

Bed Cap

A product that covers the top of a pickup truck's bed rails on each side to dress up the truck and provide protection from dents, nicks and scratches. Typically offered in stainless steel or aluminum diamond plate. Available to cover or allow use of stake bed pockets. Some models are squared off at the rear and leave some painted bed rail exposed at the rearmost corners of the truck; others wrap all the way around the rear corners of the bed and line up with the tailgate. Most companies offer front rail and tailgate caps to match their bed caps.

Bed Cover

See tonneau cover. Also sometimes used to refer to a truck cap.

Bed Drawer

A storage product for a pickup truck bed that features a hard top and one or more drawers underneath. The top surface acts like a false floor, so heavy or bulky cargo can be loaded on top, while smaller or breakable items can go inside the drawers. Some units are lockable, and some can be customized to accommodate fishing poles and gear, sales samples, camera equipment or guns and ammunition. The term also is sometimes used to describe a bed extender. A cargo drawer is a comparable product for a van or SUV.

Bed Extension

A hitch-mount accessory for a pickup truck that stabilizes or supports long cargo, such as lumber or even a canoe that extends beyond a pickup's bed. See also bed extender.

Bed Liner

product that covers and protects the bed of a pickup truck. Most bedliners fall into one of two categories
