Bumper Cover

A body color restyling accessory that fits over a stock chrome front or rear bumper on a pickup, van or SUV to provide a monochromatic look. Some front bumper covers also include a built-in air dam, sometimes with integral fog lights and a small billet grille to match the larger grille on the front of the truck. A rear bumper cover is an alternative to a roll pan.

Bumpin'

Cruising in a lowered vehicle, such as a low rider. Some have hydraulics that assist in bouncing up and down.

Bunch Of Bananas

A tuned exhaust system with intertwined headers.

Bunting Bronze

A trade name for a type of bronze used for bushings.

Bureau Of Automotive Repair (BAR)

A state agency that regulates the auto service and repair industry in California.

Burette

A glass container used to measure liquid in cubic centimeters (cc).

Burn

A visible discoloration or sub-surface damage from an excessively high temperature, generally produced by grinding.

Burn In

A process of operating an electronic device for a period from several hours to several days before putting the component into service.

Burn Rubber

To accelerate at a rate that the traction tires leave black streaks on the pavement.

Burn Time

Time required for a given amount of air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber to burn.

Burnout

The moment of final oxidation or combustion of fuel in an engine.

Burnt

Permanently damaged material caused by heating conditions producing incipient melting or intergranular oxidation.

Burr

A feather edge left on metal after being cut or files.

Bus

1. A large enclosed vehicle for carrying passengers, usually for hire. 2. Slang for a family car. 3. A common conductor or group of conductors for one or more signals. Also used to distribute non-signal power and ground throughout a system (power bus.)

Bus Bar

A common electrical connection to which all of the fuses in the fues box are attached

Bushing

A one-piece sleeve, usually bronze, inserted into a bore to serve as a bearing.

Business Coupe

An inexpensive two-door body type with no rear seat, last available in the mid 1940s.

Bussword

A word or phrase that happens to be a popular cliche of a group of people, such as race car drivers.

Butane

A colorless gas (C4H10) that is used as a fuel

Butt Gap

The distance between the ends of a piston ring.
