Cavitation
The presence of air in a liquid during pumping, which can inhibit the flow of the liquid.
Cavitation
An undesirable condition in a pump, including a vehicle’s water pump, oil pump or fuel pump. Cavitation typically is caused when a bubble in the fluid being pumped implodes back into a liquid state. This causes severe loading on the pump, which vibrates noticeably and is able to pump only 20 or 30 percent of the normal flow rate. Naturally, if the pump is barely pumping, it’s not moving enough fluid (water, oil or gasoline) for the vehicle to perform properly.
