Christmas Tree

A multi-light device at the starting line of a drag strip. It indicates when the driver in each of the two lanes has pulled into position to start the race, then indicates when each driver is to leave the starting line. Christmas trees can be set to count down one amber bulb at a time (known as a sportsman tree) or to flash all of the amber lights at once (known as a pro tree). Each driver aims to leave the starting line at the exact moment the green light is illuminated. If a driver leaves before the green light comes on, he redlights.
