Conduit
1. A tubular raceway, A tubular pathway such as tubing used to protect a wiring system or branch circuit. 3. A flexible metal housing or jacket that houses the parking brake cables to protect them from dirt, rust, abrasion, and other damage.
Cone
1. The conical diaphragm attached to the voice coil of a speaker that produces sound. 2. The conical part of an oxyfuel gas flame adjacent to the tip orifice.
Coned-disk Spring
A term used for Belleville washer.
Configuration
The shape or form of anything, such as an engine.
Conformability
The ease or difficulty of different materials to be shaped or worked.
Conicity
A tire condition that occurs when the tire tread is installed off center on the carcass, creating a cone shape. This causes the vehicle to pull to one side and is diagnosed by changing the tire position on the vehicle and noting the direction of pull.
Connecting Link
A link in which a removable plate facilitates connecting or disconnecting the ends of a length of chain.
Connecting Rod
A component used to attach the piston, with pin to the crankshaft rod journal.
Connecting Rod
A metal rod that connects a piston to the crankshaft inside the engine. Each rod travels up and down twice in its cylinder during a combustion cycle. A 4-cylinder engine will have four connecting rods and four pistons, while a V8 will have eight. Most connecting rods are made of steel, but some racing rods are made of aluminum.
Connecting-rod Cap
The half-round, lower, bolt-on portion of the connecting rod.
Console
A storage compartment that fits between front bucket seats or on top of the center of a front or rear bench seat. A smaller version can sit on the floor in front of the center of a bench seat. Most specialty consoles come in colors to match a factory interior, and feature cupholders and storage space to stash sunglasses, cell phones and recharging cords, tapes and CDs, garage door openers and other loose items. Some consoles even include a lid that flips forward to provide a stable writing surface or a removable, insulated cooler section to keep drinks chilled on long road trips. See floor console, bench console, overhead console.
Constant Mesh
Gears that mesh continually, such as a planetary gear, eliminating the clashing or grinding that may occur when other types of gears are shifted together.
Constant Tension
A system or device that is designed to be under perpetual pressure or stress.
Constant Velocity Joint
Abbreviated CV joint. A flexible coupling between two shafts that typically is used in a vehicle's suspension. The CV joint allows each shaft to maintain a constant speed relative to the other, regardless of the angle that exists between their respective axes.
Constant Voltage
The common type of power which all loads are connected in parallel, with different amounts of current flowing through each load.
Constant-current Charging
A charging system in which a constant flow of current is fed into the battery.
Constant-current Electronic Control (CCEC)
A type of engine-computer control.
Constant-ratio Steering Gear
A steering-gear system having the same gear ratio when the wheels are near the straight-ahead position as during extreme turns.
Constant-velocity Joint
Two universal joints, closely coupled, so their acceleration-deceleration effects cancel each other out.
Constant-voltage Charging
A method of charging where the voltage to the battery is constant, and the current decreases as a fully-charged condition is reached.
