Float Level
The float position when the needle valve is against its seat, cutting off the fuel supply.
Float System
The system that controls fuel into the carburetor and the fuel level in the float bowl.
Floater
A term used for full-floating axle.
Floating Axle
A term used for full- or semi-floating axle.
Floating Caliper
A disc-brake caliper that has piston(s) on only one side of the disc. The caliper bore moves away from the rotor in order to press the pad on the other side against the disc when the brakes are applied.
Floating Drum
A brake drum that is not secured to a hub.
Floating Piston
A piston having a floating piston pin.
Floating Piston Pin
A piston pin that rotates freely within the bore in the connecting rod.
Floating Rotor
A rotor and hub assembly made of two separate parts.
Floating-caliper Disc Brakes
A brake system in which only one of the two pads are energized and move the caliper so that it is caught between both pads.
Flog
To abuse a vehicle by pushing it too hard.
Flood
A condition whereby more fuel is in the combustion chamber than can be ignited.
Flooded
A condition whereby the air/fuel mixture in a cylinder is too rich to burn.
Flooding
A condition caused by 1. Too much liquid refrigerant being metered into the evaporator for evaporation. 2. Too much gasoline metered into an engine for combustion.

Floor Console
A storage compartment that is designed to be mounted on the floor, either between front bucket seats or in front of a bench seat. Many consoles feature cupholders, CD or cassette tape storage slots, a coin compartment and additional storage space for maps, cell phones and other items.
Floor It
To have the accelerator pushed to the floor. Also floorboard it and floored.
Floor Liner
A heavy-duty, waterproof carpet protector that can be removed easily and is designed to contain spills, mud, snow and other carpet hazards. Floor liners can be made from high-impact plastic or marine-grade carpet. They are available for the floor space in front of a vehicle's front and rear seats, as well as for the cargo area of a van or SUV. Most floor liners are custom fit to a particular vehicle. Floor Mat
A carpet protector that can be removed easily for cleaning. Most floor mats are made of carpet to match a vehicle's floor covering. Some are available in universal fit designs, while others are custom fit to a particular vehicle. They are available for the floor space in front of a vehicle's front and rear seats, as well as for the cargo area of a van or SUV. Some cover the area in front of one seat only, while others stretch from door to door for even more carpet protection. Many mats can be dressed up with embroidered logos, monograms or other designs, for a restyling touch.
Floor Pan
The panel forming the floor of the interior of the vehicle.
